HD Hyundai Robotics says a Palantir-built AI agent cut robot fix times by 63%
An AI agent HD Hyundai Robotics built with Palantir has cut the time to fix robot programming problems on site from 21.5 to 7.9 days since August, the company says. Its first measured physical-AI gain is in engineers' hours, not in a new robot.
HD Hyundai Robotics says an AI agent built with Palantir has cut the time its engineers need to fix robot programming problems on site from an average of 21.5 days to 7.9 days, about 63%, since the system went into use in August. It announced the result on Nov. 1 after Chief Technology Officer Ahn Seong-hwan gave a keynote at Palantir's Sovereignty Bootcamp in New York, Yonhap and Dailian reported.
The first number HD Hyundai Robotics can put on physical AI comes from its engineers' calendars, not from a new machine. On Oct. 21 it showed its first in-house dual-arm robot in Daegu; the measured gain sits in the manual work around the arms it already sells. Senior engineers used to check robot motion by hand and keep adjusting work sequences, paths and speeds on site, eToday reported. Now the agent reads the existing robot program and proposes changes, and engineers check them against field experience and simulation.
The company expects the approach to cut robot programming costs by more than 50%. Its engineers are to move from installation and commissioning toward defining site problems and building AI-based fixes, and the two companies will hold a regular steering committee of senior executives.
The robotics work sits inside a larger contract. HD Hyundai widened its Palantir deal across the group in January, a deal a person familiar with it put at hundreds of millions of dollars over several years, Reuters reported. The group says it already builds ships about 30% faster with Palantir software.
