1X puts its NEO home humanoid into real households for a beta trial
A three-month trial with selected households will test whether the $20,000 NEO can do chores safely and reliably before customer deliveries.
In short: 1X Technologies has started inviting a small group of households worldwide into a roughly three-month NEO beta trial, gathering safety and reliability data before a wider rollout.
Key facts
- Price: $20,000 to buy or $499/month, after a refundable $200 deposit. 1X's order page still says only "US deliveries start 2026"; no customer delivery has been publicly confirmed.
- Hardware: a 66-lb tendon-driven humanoid with a soft knit exterior, running 1X's Redwood vision-language-action model on an NVIDIA Jetson Thor chip.
- Factory: 1X says its 58,000 sq ft Hayward, California plant began full-scale production on April 30, 2026, ramping to about 10,000 NEOs a year, targeting 100,000+ a year by end-2027. Early units go to internal and in-home testing first.
- Independent trackers found most published NEO chore demos were teleoperated, not autonomous.
Why it matters
A real-household beta is the test that separates viral demos from a shippable humanoid: can NEO fold laundry and load a dishwasher without a remote pilot? Results will shape how fast consumer humanoids arrive.
