Origin exits stealth with $20M to put drywall-finishing robots on live sites

Accel and Zacua Ventures co-led a $20 million round for Origin, a construction-robot startup founded in early 2025 that came out of stealth on Oct 15. Its OG-1 robot already finishes drywall autonomously on live sites, with pilots at two of the largest US drywall contractors and a target of 150 robots by the end of 2027.

Origin, a construction-robot startup founded in early 2025, came out of stealth on Oct 15 with $20 million in total funding co-led by Accel and Zacua Ventures, plus Unilazer, Schema Ventures, Z21 and angels from Anduril, Skild AI, 1X and Tesla.

Origin is selling contractors capacity their crews cannot supply. CEO Yogesh Ghaturle says "every customer we work with has more demand and project backlogs than their teams can deliver" and is "leaving revenue on the table" for want of skilled people. The money funds OG-1 deployment and pilots with two of the largest drywall-finishing contractors in the US, with more pilots scheduled in Germany, Sweden, France and Saudi Arabia.

OG-1 applies compound, sands and primes walls to a professional finish without human intervention, at heights up to 14 ft (4.3 m). The three-wheeled robot uses 360-degree vision to work beside crews without a cordoned-off area; crews still handle site mapping and material refills. The company says it runs at three times human speed, and Origin targets 150 robots by the end of 2027.

That target rests on finishers paying for throughput. Zacua's own Construction Robotics Report 2026 puts robots at under 0.03% of global construction spending even after the sector drew $1.36 billion in venture funding in the first three quarters of 2025, and founding partner Vivin Hegde warns that "too many construction robots perform well in a lab and fail within a week on a live job site." The two unnamed US pilots are the first test.
