Syncere raises $11M pre-seed for its Lume robot lamp, now priced 80% above its April preorder
a16z Speedrun led an $11 million pre-seed in Syncere, maker of the laundry-folding Lume floor lamp. Since preorders opened in April, Lume's starting price has risen from $1,499 to $2,699 and a software fee has been added.
a16z Speedrun has led an $11 million pre-seed round in Syncere, the Palo Alto startup behind Lume, a floor lamp with a robot arm that folds laundry, tidies up and makes the bed, the company announced on Nov. 3. Draper Associates, Physical World, Sequel and SeaX Ventures joined. The money goes to Lume deliveries, manufacturing capacity and commercial uses of the same technology.
Syncere's pitch is that a lamp gets a robot into the home before the robot is good at chores, and buyers are being asked to pay more and more for that arrangement. When preorders opened in April, Lume started at $1,499 and a two-unit Duet at $2,499, with shipping planned for the summer, Mike Kalil reported. By September the single lamp cost $2,699, 80% more, and the Duet $5,199; deliveries had moved to the first quarter of 2027, and owners would need a $79 monthly subscription or a $679 one-time payment for software updates and new tasks, Notebookcheck reported from Syncere's release. The Nov. 3 release describes deliveries as already under way and says Lume has drawn millions of dollars in preorders.
"Home robotics has a deployment problem disguised as a data problem," CEO Aaron Tan said. Each Lume in a home sends back the data that makes the next software update better, so every buyer is also paying to train Syncere's physical AI.
Even at the higher price, Lume costs less than a seventh of the $20,000 that 1X asks for its NEO home humanoid, The Next Web noted.
