XPeng wins citywide Guangzhou L4 robotaxi permit after more than 2,000 internal test orders
XPeng said it recently received Guangzhou's intelligent connected vehicle application demonstration qualification, allowing L4 robotaxi demonstrations across the whole city. Access opens by invitation code, and He Xiaopeng has targeted passenger service without safety drivers for 2027.
XPeng said on Oct 26 that it had recently obtained Guangzhou's intelligent connected vehicle application demonstration qualification, allowing L4 robotaxi demonstration operations across all of Guangzhou.
The permit moves XPeng's robotaxi business, branded Xpeng Yoyo on Oct 8, from internal testing toward public service, its head Candice Yuan said on Weibo. Access still opens gradually through invitation codes, and the larger test is passenger service without safety drivers, which He Xiaopeng has targeted for 2027.
The permit follows a 2026 sequence: a road-test permit in January, a robotaxi division in March, the first production GX robotaxi off the line in May and the first internal ride in July. By August, He said the factory-built robotaxis with second-generation VLA had completed more than 2,000 internal test orders in Guangzhou. The robotaxi uses the GX SUV, vision only without lidar or HD maps, four in-house Turing AI chips with 3,000 TOPS effective compute and VLA 2.0, according to CnEVPost.
XPeng has not said whether safety operators stay on board during the invitation-code phase.
