Embodied AI's AIR humanoid uses tendon arms and wheels to work beside factory staff without a cage
Swiss start-up Embodied AI unveiled AIR, a wheeled humanoid whose motors sit in the torso and whose tendon-driven arms give way on contact, designed to the ISO/TS 15066 collaborative robot specification. It is aiming at the safety rules factories already use instead of waiting for humanoid ones.
Swiss robotics company Embodied AI unveiled AIR, a humanoid built to work on the factory floor next to people, at Humanoid Europe 2026 in Munich on Nov. 6. Its motors, gearboxes and electronics sit in the torso. The arms are light and moved by tendons, so they carry almost no mass and give way on contact, and it rolls on wheels instead of walking. The company says AIR is designed under ISO/TS 15066:2016, the specification for collaborative robots that work beside people, with CE marking planned for 2027.
That design choice is the bet. Embodied AI is not waiting for humanoid-specific safety rules. It is building to cobot rules that factory safety teams already apply, and it trades legs and stiff arms to fit them. The case for that shortcut came a day earlier from a Swiss aircraft plant. Pilatus Aircraft is testing Hexagon's AEON humanoid on its final assembly line in Stans, and project manager Kilian Läubli told Defence Industry Europe that "a regulatory framework needs to be set up to define exactly how these robots can be used legally."
An operator runs every new job until the robot learns it
AIR starts each job under the control of a human operator, so it does useful work from its first shift. Every run is recorded, and the company's AI stack learns from those teleoperated demonstrations until AIR can do the task alone, which Embodied AI says typically happens within a month. The operator then stays on call for anything the robot has not seen.

The strongest number so far belongs to the company's two-arm industrial cell. In a proof of concept Embodied AI describes with its own data, a consumer electronics manufacturer gave five funded start-ups a cable-handling task and none met its targets; Embodied AI reached 98% reliability against a 90% goal. It says it went from research to an industrial humanoid in 9 months.
The arm design grew out of chief executive Francesco Stella's PhD at EPFL in Lausanne. Faber led the company's first round, with TechShop, Look AI Ventures, Plug and Play and Vento also investing. Until the CE mark arrives in 2027, AIR's cobot design is a claim that each manufacturer's own safety team has to check for itself.
