XPeng puts IRON humanoid's solid-state battery into small-batch production before the robot
XPeng vice president Gu Jie said on Oct 28 that the solid-state battery for the IRON humanoid has entered small-batch production, while IRON itself is still before start of production. XPeng plans to mass-produce IRON by the end of 2026.
XPeng Group vice president Gu Jie said on Oct. 28 that the solid-state battery for the company's IRON humanoid robot has entered small-batch production and is rolling off the line, while IRON itself is still pre-SOP, before start of production. He spoke at the annual congress of the Society of Automotive Engineers of China, according to CnEVPost.
The wording leaves the chemistry open. At its Tech Day in November 2025, XPeng said IRON would be the first humanoid to use an all-solid-state battery. On Oct. 28 Gu said "solid-state" only. In September, Jipian Lab reported that the production IRON would switch to semi-solid pouch cells from a second-tier Chinese supplier because all-solid-state cells were not ready in time. XPeng had made no public statement about such a switch.
Gu said the pack was designed for the robot, not carried over from a car. It uses a high-energy-density design to fit the limited space inside IRON, is built to stop thermal runaway from spreading, and withstands impact and nail-penetration tests. XPeng did not give energy density, capacity, cell chemistry, supplier or units built.
The IRON line in Guangzhou has been running since Sept. 8, with more than 80% of core processes automated. XPeng plans to mass-produce IRON by the end of 2026 and to place it from 2027 in XPeng stores and commercial sites worldwide for shopping-guide and product-explanation work.
