RoboParty launches RP1, a 1.3 m open-source humanoid research platform

Shanghai startup RoboParty launched RP1 on Oct 15, a 1.3-meter humanoid whose body design, ROMOMO actuators, low-level drivers, control algorithms and firmware are open source. The standard version has 24 actuated degrees of freedom and the Pro version 30, for robotics research and embodied AI.

RoboParty, a Shanghai company founded in 2025, launched RP1 (ROBOTO 01) on Oct 15, a roughly 1.3-meter humanoid robot for research and embodied AI. Its body design, in-house ROMOMO joint actuator resources, low-level drivers, control algorithms, firmware, SDKs and training tools are open.

The pitch is inspectability. The company says a missed action may stem from the model, the control policy, the actuator response or the mechanical structure, and open layers let a researcher trace which one. RP1 competes on how much of the robot a lab can take apart rather than on capability numbers.

The standard model has 24 actuated degrees of freedom, built for gait, balance and sim-to-real research; the Pro version has 30, including a 2-DoF neck and two 7-DoF arms. Both counts exclude the dexterous hands. The stack covers whole-body control, VR teleoperation, data collection and motion retargeting, plus PartyOS, the UFO reinforcement-learning framework and MimicLite.

RP1 builds on RPO, the open project RoboParty started in January 2026 with mechanical and electrical designs and training materials; RPO has more than 2,600 GitHub stars. RP1 adds the ROMOMO actuators and low-level control and firmware to that stack, betting RPO's following becomes its customer base. GitHub stars are not purchase orders. The release gives no price, and if RP1 costs more than closed research humanoids, inspectability alone will not win the lab budget.
